The Beauty of Tradition at the ICCJ Dinner & Concert Gala 2015

On December 4th, the 16h edition of the ICCJ Gala Dinner & Concert 2015 was held at the elegant Happo-en, and was dedicated to celebrate the “Beauty of Tradition”. Both Italians and Japanese have a deep respect for tradition; both cultures believe it is a point of reference from the past and, at the same time, a source of inspiration for new beauty and elegance.

Keeping the theme in mind, the 400 guests were welcomed by the beautiful Clarissa Marchese (Miss Italy 2014) and delighted by the refined cuisine of the famous Chef Mario Frittoli, who was exceptionally helped by the winners of the Gran Concorso di Cucina 2015.

The ICCJ President Gianluca Testa in his speech reminded the audience of the importance of EXPO 2015 to promote the tradition and economy of Italy and Japan. About 22.2 million of visitors - of which 6.5 million were foreigners - entered EXPO 2015. The long queues for visiting the Japanese and Italian pavilions were widely touted and showed proof of their success. The theme of Tradition was the focus of the speech by Domenico Giorgi, the Italian Ambassador in Tokyo. He began by stating that the history of relations between Italy and Japan began about 450 years ago. 2015 has been an important year for institutional bilateral contacts between the two countries; 2016 will be even more significant as the 150th anniversary of Italian - Japanese diplomatic relations will take place.

The music was unmissable. The Italian duo “Musica Nuda” - formed by Petra Magoni (vocals) and Ferruccio Spinetti (bass) - performed a list of pleasant and sophisticated songs that were the result of virtuosity and creativity. The Musica Nuda duo, best known in Italy and France, performed in Japan for the first time thanks to the Gala and captured the Japanese audience as well.

The precious Japanese garden surrounding Happo-en was the setting for the Gala and hosted an exhibition of remarkable examples of Italian high-end products.

Some of these were part of a silent auction; there was also a lottery with fabulous prizes. Both were organized for a charity purpose: the association Smiling Hospital Japan (that supports young patients and their families at home and in the hospital) was chosen as the designated charity where profits from the auction and lottery would go. The winners of the lottery received awards from major sponsors of the Gala, such as Alitalia – Società Aerea Italiana S.p.A., Bulgari Japan Ltd., MSC Cruises Japan Ltd.

The evening ended with dance and music from the 70s, 80s and 90s and with elegant presents for all the guests.
