Venue:
アカデミー・デュ・ヴァン 青山校 Academie du Vin (Aoyama school)

Italy and Spain have a long history and tradition in viticulture. Blessed with a warm Mediterranean climate, the wines of these two countries are rich in variety. There are 526 Italian PDO (Protected Denomination of Origin) and PGI (Protected Geographic Indication) wines, and a total of 130 in Spain. However, because of its great diversity, it may be difficult for foreign consumers to understand.

Native Grapes Academy, an educational project co-financed by the European Union (EU), aims to make the EU marks of quality and denominations easier to understand, as well as spreading information on European quality wines.

As part of this project, the Native Grapes Academy will host a “Native Grape Odyssey (NGO) Maestro Course” in Tokyo in December. The course is aimed at wine professionals (sommeliers, wine journalists, importers, etc.), and it will be held this year, from December 2 (Mon) to 6 (Fri). The objective will be studying in depth Italian and Spanish wines, completing the mere analysis of the wine itself by adding elements from the local culture, gastronomy and history, which are closely related to the wine production in Italy and Spain. The instructors will be two experts of Italian wine, as proved by their title of Italian Wine Ambassador released by the educational body Vinitaly International Academy: they are the Academie Du Vin instructor Irving So, and Wellspring Wines director Roddy Ropner.

Participants will also have access to educational material drawn up exclusively for the aforementioned course, updated using the most recent studies in the field of wine. The NGO Maestro course is in fact designed to combine tradition and modernity: bringing together the wine knowledge handed down to us by our ancestors and the most recent scientific innovations.

Native Grapes Academy will also realize a walk around tasting on Friday December 6th, which will gather about 50 Italian and Spanish wineries, for a total of more than 100 European wines to be tasted. Don't miss this tasting and networking opportunity!

Are you ready to leave for a journey through time and space to discover the secrets of Italian and Spanish wines?
