Promoting the culture of high quality olive oil with JOOP

For the 1st place, article in a specialised magazine. After the success of the past editions, the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ICCJ) is delighted to announce the fourth edition of the Japan Olive Oil Prize (JOOP).

The competition is oriented to producers of extra virgin olive oils around the world.

The aim is to celebrate high-quality olive oil, originally a symbol of Mediterranean diet and increasingly widely used in many different cultures and countries.

JOOP provides producers and consumers, respectively, the chance to promote, and deepen their knowledge of the extra virgin olive oil culture in Japan.

Promoting extra virgin olive oil culture is achieved with JOOP in several ways: celebrating the consistent efforts of oil producers to improve the quality of their products, and promoting them toward public and private institutions, trade-distribution channels, and direct consumers.

The Jury is composed of an international panel of 8 certified sensorial-analysis judges, supervised by the panel leader Dr. Marzia Migliorini (Head of the Research, Chemical Laboratory, Florence Chamber of Commerce).
The announcement of the winners and the award ceremony will take place in Tokyo on June 9th, 2016, in front of the public, media and experts.

The JOOP Prize will consist of:
  •         Trophy (1st, 2nd and 3rd for each category);
  •         Stickers for the product’s packaging “Winner of JOOP Japan Olive Oil Prize 2016” (1st, 2nd and 3rd for each category);
  •         Certification for prize winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd for each category);
  •         Excellence certificate for olive oils with distinctive organoleptic and sensory qualities;
  •         For the 1st place, participation at the trade show ACCI Gusto;
  •         For the 1st place, promotion event in a famous department store in Tokyo
  •         For the 1st place, article in a specialised magazine.

In line with Italian tradition for oil production, the Italian Chamber of Commerce confirms its commitment in promoting and protecting the quality of extra virgin olive oil. The interest and importance of this initiative has already been recognized in the 2015 edition, where producers coming from 10 different countries decided to enter the competition (Croatia, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, USA, Tunisia, Turkey) and 125 kinds of oil have been presented.
