Massan and the Renaissance of Japanese Wine

When one thinks of Japan’s alcoholic beverages, sake, beer and whiskey come to mind. However, the tides have turned for the once ridiculed Japanese wines, with “koshu” wines attracting much interest abroad.

The same story can be seen for Japanese whisky. In November 2014, Suntory’s Yamazaki Single Malt Sherry Cask 2013 was named the world’s best whisky by the prestigious Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2015, which gave the industry a huge boost both here in Japan and abroad.

Italian Chocolate, love at first sight

The Aperitivo della Camera of last February, organized during the Valentine's Day week, has celebrated chocolate. Italy has always occupied an important position in trade with Japan regarding chocolate: it is the fifth largest exporter in Japan after the US, China, Belgium and France, reaching in 2013 imports for 1,909,924 kg with an increase of 280% from 2009 values.

2014, a mixed year for Italian exports

In February, both Japanese Customs and Eurostat have published the complete results for the bilateral trade between Japan and Italy. The data from Japanese Customs reveal that overall imports from Italy have decreased 2.1% in value, with 911 billion yen; Eurostat data instead show a decrease of about 11% for export values from Italy, expressed in Euro (about 5.4 billion).
