2014, a mixed year for Italian exports

In February, both Japanese Customs and Eurostat have published the complete results for the bilateral trade between Japan and Italy. The data from Japanese Customs reveal that overall imports from Italy have decreased 2.1% in value, with 911 billion yen; Eurostat data instead show a decrease of about 11% for export values from Italy, expressed in Euro (about 5.4 billion).

Made in Italy: so far, Industrial goods have the upper hand on imports to Japan

Up to past September, Italian exports to Japan have resisted decently this year’s economic and exchange storms, data from Japanese customs reveal. During the first three terms of 2014 Made in Italy goods have been registered at Japanese Customs for a total value of more nearly 700 billion yen (about 4,7 billion Euro at the current exchange rate), down only 1.8% from the same period in 2013. The picture is even brighter when restricting the figures to the 19 items whose imported value in yen is above the average, which account for the two thirds of the total imports: +9%.

Italian tourism flow toward Japan is on the rise

According to the data published by the Japanese Embassy in Rome, in the period from January to October of the last year 56,248 Italian tourists have visited Japan, up more than 30% compared to 2012. This is an impressive figure if we consider that in the first half of 2013 the inflow has been even higher than the same period in 2010, before the awful tsunami of 2011.
