2016: From the 150th Anniversary of Italy-Japan relations, to the Chamber President being a Japanese woman, an eventful year is ahead

We are pleased to announce that Kuniko Fujinami Weeks, President of A.Testoni Japan Co., Ltd. (brilliant brand of fine footwear and leather goods) is the newly elected President of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Japan.

The Board of Directors, which met the 27th of January, chose a Japanese woman (for the first time in the history of the Chamber) to officially represent the Chamber for the next 2 years.

The election results an important occasion for the Chamber. On one hand, it can go without saying that Ms. Fujinami Weeks has been an active member of the Board for the past few years. However, this election result truly shows the Chamber’s determination in promoting the trade relations between Italy and Japan; these two countries, despite the geographical distance and the cultural diversities, have been constantly demonstrating a mutual interest and respect.

We wish Kuniko Fujinami Weeks, who has a deep knowledge of both cultures, to support the Chamber to further sustain the trade relations between the two countries, highlighting their strengths and cultivating new business opportunities.

The ICCJ also wishes to thank the former President, Gianluca Testa, Regional Manager of Asia for Alitalia Compagnia Aerea Italiana SpA, for the commitment and diligence with which he has supported the Chamber during the past two years. Also thanks to Mr. Testa, the Chamber has strengthened its position in becoming an indispensable reference for all companies interested in developing economic relations between the two countries.

January 27th was also the date of the ICCJ General Assembly, with the renewal of half of the Board. The Ambassador of Italy in Japan, H.E. Domenico Giorgi, the Chamber’s Secretary General, Davide Fantoni, and former President Gianluca Testa, presented the results obtained in 2015 and the objectives for the upcoming year.

2015 was a successful year for ICCJ; the core activities of the Chamber were strengthened, in particular the business support for SMEs. 2016 is a year in which the Chamber aims to increase the offer of services to Japanese companies interested in entering the Italian market.

Additionally, 2015 saw success for ICCJ’s events promoting Made in Italy products; the Gran Concorso di Cucina, the 4th edition of JOOP and the Italian Hospitality International Certification (MOI) are examples of this. The coming year will also feature many seminars, workshops and networking events.

The most important event of 2016 will be "Italy, amore mio!", celebrating the 150th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Japan, scheduled on May 28th and 29th in Roppongi Hills.

2016 is unquestionably an important year for ICCJ in many ways. To respond to this, along with many other events and services we provide, we are focusing on organizing the first “Italian Festival” in Japan, a spectacular showcase of Made in Italy excellences, located in one of the most important commercial districts of Tokyo. We warmly welcome any companies interested in, or have a relation with Italy, to participate in this joyous, magnificent event.
