Five years into Abenomics and a few months left before the Olympic Games, now more than ever Japan feels the push to change for the better its social infrastructure and economy. Striving to keep the pace, many mature companies face problems with an inefficient workforce. Long working hours, low creativity and risk aversion are often the result of inadequate HR management.
Last year, Unilever Japan launched a revolutionary approach to HR called WAA (Work Anywhere Anytime) as a core part of its restructuring. What impact is this policy achieving on Unilever employees and results? Can it be a model for other companies?
Fulvio Guarneri

Fulvio Guarneri was appointed as CEO Japan in August 2014. After joining Unilever in 1997, Fulvio worked in a number of sales and marketing roles in Unilever Italy and the Global Oral Care Innovation Centre in Milan. In 2005, he became Marketing Director – Oral & Household Care in Unilever Italy. In 2007, Fulvio moved to Bucharest to work in Unilever South Central Europe first as Foods Marketing Director role and then as Marketing Director of HPC, Foods and Ice Cream. In 2011, he joined Unilever RUB as VP Marketing HPC, based in Moscow. He is a graduate of Bocconi University of Milan and married with two daughters.
